Heike's Pork Casserole

This delicious and rich casserole was served to us in Syke, Germany, near Bremen at the home of Heike & Rolf Eggers on a cool November afternoon. This recipe is presented in German as Heike wrote it out for us but is also shown converted to American measurements and adjusted for the calorie conscious.

This recipe has a pungent and rich taste uniquely enhanced by the ketchup and chilli sauce.

German Version

2 kg Fleisch mit Salz & Pfeffer
1 kg Zwiebeln (Scheisen)
2 x Pilze = 500 gr. ohne Wasser
2 x Kartoffeln = 500 gr. mit Wasser
500 ml. Ketchup
250 ml Chillise Be
750 ml Sahne
5 Paprika
Zusammen rhuren. 24 Stunden im Kuhlschrank. 200 C fur 2 Stunden garen.
American Version

2 lbs. pork cut in small pieces
Salt & Pepper
1/2 lb. pearl onions
1 lb. mushrooms
1 lb. potatoes diced
1 cup ketchup
1 cup chilli sauce
8 oz. Neufchatel cheese
1 cup 1% milk
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
Mix together all ingredients. For best results, simmer in crock pot on high for 4 hours .
